How to skip the small talk and start meaningful conversations
Taken straight from the top Google search result, “small talk” is the term used to describe the “polite conversation” you have with someone you barely know, usually on unimportant or uncontroversial matters.
Personally, I think Urban Dictionary describes it best as the “useless and unnecessary conversation attempted to fill the silence in an awkward conversation.” That hits a lot closer to home.
What it's like growing up in an international school
Growing up in an international school was weird. In a good way, don't get me wrong - it's the reason I frequently reminisce on the sleep-deprived memories of my early teenage years. This was a totally unique life experience that I was blessed enough to have, and I'd recommend it to anyone; but man, did it come with a dose of reality bites.
The era of FOMO: 3 major ways Instagram and Facebook damages your mental health, and what to do about it
Social media has been both a blessing and curse for the new generation. It’s a digital revolution that’s opened countless doors of opportunity for business, relationships, and the widespread communication of new ideas.
Our world has never felt smaller, information has never felt more accessible, and the freedom of self-expression has never been more encouraged.
But of course, with the advent of life-changing technology comes its inevitable pitfalls.
3 kinds of foods that kill your productivity (and what to eat instead)
So you’ve got yourself a pretty hectic day ahead; e-mails to send, meetings to run, projects to turn in – and goodness knows those groceries aren’t going to shop themselves. If only that NZT-48 pill from “Limitless” were a real-world drug, many of us would’ve taken one by now.
Though while there aren’t any magic tablets on the market (just yet), we can start improving our mental and physical performance through what we eat on the daily.
Review: The Book of Mormon Sydney
So after having seen The Book of Mormon in Sydney for the 3rd time (yes, that’s right; I’ve gone three times), I think it’s safe to say that I can provide a pretty sound, detailed review of this entertainment gem bestowed upon us by the South Park gods. I’m talking about Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the brilliant minds behind Cannibal! The Musical, Team America, and of course – everyone’s favorite lewd, crude, satirical cartoon.
The top 5 comedy shows that will make you laugh, till you cry
More than just an easily accessible cure for a bad day, sitcoms also provide an escape from the real world with often zany and dysfunctional storylines that usually keep us watching for the entire 20-minute timeframe.
But there’s a (probably not-so) secret ingredient to all successful comedy shows, and it’s more than just having the quick and sharp wit of a budding Tina Fey. No – good comedic shows have something much deeper – they have heart.
4 romantic movie cliches that need to die
We all like to treat ourselves to a sugary helping of Hollywood romance every once in a while. And every once in a while, we’ll discover an unexpected, unconventional treat – be it a love story laced with a bit of Black Mirror sci-fi, a la Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, a trilogy of Before films that focus on dialogue rather than spectacle, or a whimsical musical of 80’s revivals – like Moulin Rouge.
Sadly, most other times, we’ll find ourselves watching yet another slapdash mish-mash of tried and tired lines, cheesy acting, and a cookie-cutter storyline played out to Miley Cyrus’ best hits.
